To lose all hope is a terrible thing; to be happy is to have something to hope for and something to look forward to. Optimism is something I strive for everyday and although being cheery through a rough day can be difficult I know there is always something better coming my way. When the bad days seem endless I have the courage to stand up for others (although rarely for myself), to make my own decisions, to listen to criticism and to roll with the punches life often throws my way. I can’t say I am fortunate to have such courage; it is not something we are born with, I worked hard at developing it and still have a long way to go.
Without courage people focus on what they have lost rather than what they have left to gain. Cowardice is a lethal flaw that begins with hiding behind tiny lies and quickly develops to enclose all fundamental convictions of happiness. It is the same weakness that stops the coward from seeing what needs to change thus allowing all struggles to continue.
It is very frustrating to know people who can’t open their minds or harden their hearts. They forget everything they used to fight for and begin to fall victim to small daily challenges. The necessary selfishness it may require to deal with your inner issues can be what it takes to overcome the hopelessness of fear. There are few things (if any) in life more important than taking care of yourself…so take care.
