Firstly.

“A great man is the man who does something for the first time.”
- Alexander Smith

There is a first time for everything…for everyone. Remembering our firsts can warm our hearts or make us cringe.
The ones that make us uncomfortable are probably the more important ones to remember: the first time you were grounded, your first F, the first time you had to get stitches. We learn our lessons (hopefully) but use these harsh milestones as a reminder that there are consequences for our actions.
The other, more heartening firsts have taught us what we like. You remember the euphoric moment of tasting your first chocolate milkshake, or your first trip to the zoo. Reflecting on the things we take pleasure in brings out certain emotions that leave us wanting to enjoy and share the positive experiences with others.
Yesterday I took Ray out for his first crêpe and followed the success of the Nutella and strawberry breakfast avec whip cream with his first visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario. I was more eager than usual because I had the chance to relive these firsts all over again with him. I discovered a new source of happiness in sharing what I love to someone who was experiencing it for the first time.
If you find yourself feeling like there is nothing interesting to do… Make the conscious effort to have more firsts yourself. Try something new or get someone else to.

He enjoyed himself. I promise.
