Do the Right Thing

Considering culture, race, and the oppression which is always looming behind them,   I find it best to step away from politics. Politics are too finite. The papers are signed and dated, governments are overthrown, holidays are created, freedom is celebrated - everything has a time and a place in a very linear time line.

The problem with this political mindset is there is minimal examination of the cultural consequences. Nothing exists today independently from the past and many aspects of the past can be found in co-existence with the preset – Including discrimination.

Intangible consequences are long lasting effects of past occurrences of oppression and continuous cultural ignorance. Education and media are platforms where imperialism still exists at large. Films such as Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing bring up many questions about race, discrimination and violence. The audience is encouraged to question their perception of righteousness - something western media often attempts to answer itself to shape the popular opinion in favour of its capital power.

We have to remain aware that the stats we read in newspapers, the hate speech towards race affects and is directly connected to people who suffer daily for something as sacred as their faith or as ridiculous as their skin color.
It is easier to hate numbers than it is to hate humans.
