We Day

“Ohhh he likes you!” Scott turned to me to say.
“Nah we just went to high school together. That’s all.” I replied.
“Nope. He definitely likes you.” He rebutted.

It seemed such a strange observation coming from a man I had only met several hours before. The man was Scott Hood, president and founder of The World Change Foundation. I was his wrangler for the day and my job was to ensure he was comfortable but more importantly in the right place at the right time. We were giving out World Change Coins to everyone we met and this included the Degrassi cast who was speaking that day when we ran into them in the green room.

Ray had recognized me from school and we had brief introductions and some small talk before we both had to be on our way. It wasn’t until a couple hours later when I had to take Scott to our assigned box seats that Ray and I ran into each other again. By sheer coincidence we were assigned to the same box.

It was nearly impossible to have a conversation during the show, especially once the Jonas Brothers showed up, but just before leaving Ray came over and asked if he could have my number so we could meet up after the show was over. No harm in that.

We both showed up at the smaller, quieter “after party” where we sat down over coffee and jellybeans and talked about absolutely everything we possibly could in that amount of time. He asked if I wanted to join him and his friends at the second event but I had to make my way home.

It wasn’t for another seven months until we began dating but for all We Day stands for and the incredible effect it has on so many youth, it really did change my life.

Looks like Scott Hood was right.
Have fun at We Day today Toronto.
Change really does happen.
